My First Pumpkin Patch!

Weekly Report

Picture
May 7, 2020. I started from 4" pucks in my greenhouse around April 1st. I transplanted around 4/21/2020 to the ground. Yesterday, I did my first treatment for squash bugs.

May 13, 2020. This is my first year of growing pumpkins! I am so amazed that pumpkins grow so fast! Temperature has been around the 90's, taking heat very well. I water the plants through drip irrigation twice a day. 6AM, and 7PM on a timer.

May 20, 2020. I couldn't wait to post an update! This is exciting to see! Do you see the little "Jack"? Already little pumpkins are coming out!
Picture
May 27, 2020. This is the exact same plant that I have been following. What a difference in 1 week! The baby pumpkin is going as well! I come through each plant once a day to make sure no pests are chewing up my plants.

June 3, 2020. I can no longer zoom in to take a picture of the entire plant! And do you know how big the pumpkin flower gets? It's pretty big and this pumpkin is about the size of a child's head! This is the exact same fruit that I am following. Compare this to last week's photo!

June 10, 2020. What a progress in 1 week! It's probably twice bigger than an adult's head right now.

June 17, 2020.Other pumpkins are catching up with this one. However, this biggest pumpkin seems like it stopped getting bigger. Instead, they started to mature. See the color difference? Today, I did some pruning. Remove dead leaves and extra vines to help support the growth of the fruit. We'll see what happens next week!

June 24, 2020. Pumpkins are everywhere! However, This extreme heat over 100F and strong wind is beating them up! Some plants look sad. When I look closer, there are some rotten pumpkins inside this jungle. I am going to prune the dead vines and remove bad pumpkin this week, so the plants can focus on fruiting bigger and better pumpkin. These pumpkins on the pictures are NOT the biggest one I got.

July 1, 2020. Exposed!!! I gave them a little haircut! I trimmed extra leave, vines, weak stems, rotten pumpkins... Also, I saw some Squish Bugs, so I sprayed with organic pesticides to exterminate pests. I do this treatment maybe once a month. I can almost tell that those pests were bugging them a lot. In a matter of a couple of days, I can tell they really felt better. Growing much better.
This pumpkin is so large, I can't even pick it up!

7/20/2020. Finally I harvested this massive, 67.6 lb Big Max Pumpkin! I am going to show you what we did with it!!
