Goat Farm!

Diary of my "Goaties"

Our First Goats : Choco & Latte (6/30/2020~)

6/30/2020. One day I woke up and said, "I want goats!!" I put our large Dog kennel on the back of my husband's truck bed. I said to my husband "I'll be back!" I picked up two of the female goats from one of the homesteader from Amagosa Valley.  Choco is extremely smart and quick learner. Latte loves to climb up and jump down! They are definitely cute! I asked "What are you feeding them right now?" to the breeder. Then he said "They are still so young. You still need to bottle feed them" I have NO knowledge of how to raise goats. Bottle feed them?? What? Like a baby? OMG!
So I studied and learned how to take care of them. Bottle feeding these babies and taking care of them was so scary at first, because I didn't want to mess them up. But it wasn't so hard!!

Boer Nubian Cross Goat "Choco" she was 1 month old when she arrived at our farm. Good for both Milk and meat. I am not eating them but I have plans for goat milk!! She is so sweet and follows me everywhere!

Boer Nubian Cross Goat "Latte" she was 2 month old when she arrived. She loves eating dead branches! She was so shy but now she comes to me and try to kiss me!
8/31/2020. They are the cutest thing! Soon as they hear my voice, they start crying "Maaaaaaaaye!" Did you call my last name? They want my attention all the time! They are extremely helpful cleaning up my yard! But they are picky eater. People says that goats eat whatever... That's not true! They don't eat certain things like salt ceder, or goat head (Tumbleweed). They eat certain weeds. So far, I found out that they love messing with my grape vines and leaves. They love cantaloupe juice, watermelon juice, sweet potato vines, everything about corn! They are very smart, and reckless!

Choco is now 4 months old, and Latte is 5 months old. They like going to my husband's welding shop and jump on everything they see, and leave him some fertilizer gift!

New additions to our goat farm!

10/21/2020 I woke up this morning, decided to get 2 more goats! Their owner and the family did not have time to attend them, so they haven't had any interactions with human other than feeding time. They are about 7 years old. Type of breed is Nigerian Dwarf. When I looked at them first, they were so cute. but funny looking! I feel that they are bit overweight... Or maybe that's just me, because I am so used to Choco & Latte. They are much skinnier and younger than them.

Her name is "Marbles"
Her name is Blackie. She look like a little donkey! She is so naughty!
10/18/2021 Choco, Latte, Marbles and Blackie all went to the breeder's house. Time to get pregnant!! Let's see who's bringing new babies to our farm! So excited!

10/21/2021 My husband and I are missing our goats! Come baaaaaaaack!!

New additions to our goat farm!

"Wild Thang"

11/10/2021 We got a new goat from another farm today. My husband named her "Wild Thang" The owner said she's a Mountain Goat. Another breeder sais she's not. We have no idea. But she is pretty! My breeder/ mentor says she's little too skinny. We need to watch her closely.

11/10/21 "Wild Thang" our new goat! Maybe Mountain Goat. Some says no. We have no idea! She is very shy, skinny and she has very little appetite... We need to give her a lot of love! She will be fine!

Now everybody's back!!

Let's see who's pregnant?

11/12/2021 We brought back Choco and Blackie back to our farm. Either they got knocked up already or not really interested at all. We upgraded their corrals for them so they can live comfortably during pregnancy. Latte and Marbles are still at the breeder's house.

11/19/2021 We brought back Latte and Marbles. We put Choco & Latte in one corral, and Marbles, Blackie, and the new girl Wild Thang in one stall. Now everyone is happy! I have been checking for any signs of pregnancy. Someday I feel like they are all pregnant. Blackie got mellowed out since she's been back. She used to be so mean to Choco, and me! Now Blackie has no issue with me. On the other hand, Choco was so nice to me, but she's acting like a stranger. Latte is always my girl. No matter what, she is so cute and friendly. She seems little skinnier... Or other got fatter...

12/2/2021 I am so anxious to find out who got pregnant. All of them are acting different. Wild Thang is now eating a lot more, she got used to me, so now she comes to me whenever I visit them. The rest of my girls, here's what I 've observed today.

Choco: I feel like she's getting bigger. But she always has bloating issue since she was a little, so hard to tell. I checked her in the morning before I feed her. She may got slightly bigger... Personality of a grapefruit right now! I can't believe it! She was my baby...

Latte: Still look the same or I feel like she got little skinnier. I am not sure why... Seems like she's resting more today.

Blackie: She's definitely got sweeter. Maybe she learned a lesson while she was at the breeder's house with bunch of other goats. We brought her back here because she was causing a drama. But now, she is like a totally different girl. She doesn't try to attack me anymore.

Marbles: Her belly looks little bigger on one side. She's acting like a Choco right now. Grapefruit! She doesn't want me to touch her, brush her... Nothing. But, to my husband, she's still nice to him. Go to Mike then!!

Wild Thang: She shouldn't be pregnant, but she was with a buck (Mountain Goat) when we picked her up. So I guess we will figure it out in 5 months!

12/17/2021 I am still not sure who's pregnant... But Choco & Latte are definitely looks different. Belly looks bigger and I find Latte laying down little more often.

12/25/2021 Merry Christmas to all of my goaties! Lately it's been wet and cold, so we are making sure they stay healthy and alive. I have noticed that Choco & Latte's appetite has been decreased a little bit. Not sure what's going on... I asked one of my goat breeder friend when will I notice if my goats are pregnant or not. Well... I guess I won't know if they are pregnant till at least 3 months pregnant unless I perform a "pee test." I guess I will find out when I find out. I swear I feel like a grandma waiting to see a newborn baby!

1/30/2022 We got a new goat! Her name is Faintasia. She is a Miniature Fainting Goat. She doesn't faint, but she gets really stiff. She was a outcast at a farm. Nobody liked her, she was always sad, lonely, and bullied. I heard that story from her owner, so we picked her up. She is very very shy right now, but we hope that she will open up to us. Right now, she looks rough! Dusty, dirty, hair is all dreadlocked inside, no shine on her coat. But we believe that with our love, she will become a Cinderella!!

Wild Thang was the same way, so we put Faintasia with Wild Thang together. They get along very well! Also she hangs out with 2 roosters. Now Faintasia has a bunch of friends to hang out with.

"Camp Goatie"

1/30/2022 Yesterday, we finished building a new goat pen by Juicy Fruit Land. We built this with "Thriving Warrior" members to accept /rescue new round of goats. However, the owner decided to keep them. So, we decided to move Marbles and Blackie to this new pen. This one is shorter than the other goat pen, but much bigger and colorful! So far, they are loving it!

This tag " Camp Goatie" was done by my husband! He says he has a mad "Spray Can Skill"  : ) I don't even wanna know how he got the "Spray Can Skill." Well... It's really cute. I like it!

Pregnant Goats!!

2/1/2022 I've been watching all of my goats wondering which one of the goats is pregnant. My bet was Latte. Well, today we had a few volunteers working on our farm. One of the volunteers was from Germany, grew up as a farmer. So I asked, "Would you be able to tell if the goat is pregnant?" and he said "Yes." So I had him check all of our goats (6 of them) to see if any of them are pregnant. He said " Latte, Marbles, and Faintasia.

First time in my life, I am handling the Momma Goats!  I am bit emotional, because Latte is my very first goat, raised her from a baby while she was still bottle feeding stage. Now, she's about to be a mother! Me and Latte went through a lot... One time, she got really sick because we fed them Sweet Feed. We gave them little too much, and she had severe diarrhea, and almost killed her. It was a middle of Summer! She was so sick, so we brought her and Choco (they are inseparable) to our back porch, so I could keep an eye on her. She sat right next me like a sad little puppy, and never let me leave. I spent ALL DAY together outside. Since that day, we never ever give them Sweet Feed. We learned that lesson! Almost lost my favorite goat!

I love studying and learning new things. I am about to nerd out about birthing goats! New Journey! Chapter #2 begins!

New Goat! "Peanut" A.K.A. Buck Nasty!

3/8/2022 We adopted baby buck from our friend. We named him "Peanut." We only had does, so now we can breed our goats! Peanut is a Nubian Boer Goat, which is same breed as Choco & Latte. He was born on 12/30/2021. Welcome Buck Nasty!!

Almost there!

3/14/2022 We strongly felt that only Latte was pregnant. We know that 100% sure, because her udder is getting fuller every day, and sometimes, I can see the baby wiggling inside of her stomach. Her due date is 3/18/2022. Started to monitor her closely. So excited!!

Due date...3/18/2022

3/18/2022 We rushed to get back from the Lake clean up event, and checked on Latte. We moved her into "Poof Dirt Farms ER/NICU" on the 15th. We built this "ER"  on our back porch so we could monitor our sick or injured livestock, and babies. We thought she was very close to labor. But no action...

Congratulations! 3-23-2022

3/18 through 3/22, every night, we slept in the living room. One on the couch, another one on the little folding bed. We wake up and checked on her.
